Membership Information

Section 1

The membership of ALTA shall consist of individual attorneys and law firms committed to the objectives of the organization. Classes of membership shall consist of:

  • Attorney members
  • Law Student member
  • Associate Member (Non-Attorney) members

Section 2

The legal membership of ALTA shall not be limited as to number, residency, or citizenship except to the extent that members confirm annually they are authorized to practice law within the jurisdictions in which they are licensed to do so, and pledge conformance with the ethical rules and professional standards of their respective jurisdictions.

Important Information

Membership in the Affiliated Lawyers of the Americas, Inc. is subject to the approval of the Executive Committee. A membership application for each category of Membership can be downloaded on this site and emailed in PDF format to info@affiliatedlawyers.org or sent by facsimile to (212) 269-7866 or via regular mail to Affiliated Lawyers of the Americas, Inc. Attn.: Walter Rivera, Esq., 61 Broadway, Suite 1030, New York, NY 10006. The Executive Committee will notify the applicant via email of its decision.

The dues for the particular category of membership is due within 5 business days of notification of your acceptance. The dues can be paid online at www.affiliatedlawyers.org or by check payable to Affiliated Lawyers of the Americas, Inc. to be mailed to Affiliated Lawyers of the Americas, Inc. Attn.: Walter Rivera, Esq., 61 Broadway, Suite 1030, New York, NY 10006.

Member Spotlight

John T. Herbert, Esq.

John Herbert is a founding partner of Ferreira & Herbert Law Group, LLC which is now Herbert Law Group LLC. For more than 30 years, John has specialized in employment, labor and business law, including defense and plaintiff side discrimination matters, wage and hour, Executive Order 11246 compliance, arbitrations, mediations, litigation, business matters, diversity and leadership training and counseling. Prior to starting his own law firm, Mr. Herbert worked at Pfizer for 11 years, representing the global pharmaceutical company on employment law issues, and was later named Vice President Corporate HR policy and strategy. Mr. Herbert began his career managing plant labor relations at Ford Motor Company and Allied Chemical (now Honeywell.) He then served as labor relations and Executive Order 11246 compliance executive for Johnson & Johnson, where he also worked in its Legal Department. Mr. Herbert later served Pitney Bowes Inc., where he was as an Officer and business operations executive and a leader of the executive team responsible for developing the company’s award winning diversity program featured in the August 1990 edition of Business Week. He later became a partner with Epstein Becker and Green. Mr. Herbert is a graduate of Howard University and Seton Hall University School of Law, and has studied at NYU Law School, Wharton, and Harvard. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Cornell University ILR School and is formerly an adjunct at Rutgers University’s School of Labor and Management. He is also a court certified mediator, and has been involved with a number of mediation and arbitration matters across the country and abroad. Mr. Herbert has also conducted workplace investigations, human resources policy review and development, diversity program development and consulting assignments and has created and delivered client focused human resources training for large and small employers. Mr. Herbert is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and the Federal Courts and has represented clients on attorney teams in more than 12 states and throughout the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Mr. Herbert has long provided pro bono services to not-for-profit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Urban League, UNCF, FEDCAP, United Way, Lemoyne Owen College, and Bennett College among others and is currently involved in efforts to promote the re-establishment of manufacturing and service delivery operations in Urban Areas. Mr. Herbert’s office is located in Englewood, New Jersey.

Susan Chase, Esq.

Susan H. Chase is counsel to nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and housing development fund cooperatives. Susan assists companies develop sound business strategies by advising clients on corporate governance, organizational structure and regulatory compliance. She works with business owners to obtain minority and women-owned business certification to enhance government procurement opportunities. She was a United Way Senior Fellow in Nonprofit Management and a National Urban Fellows America’s Leader of Change. Susan serves on the Corporate Law Committee and Charity Corps working group of the New York State Bar Association; Chairs the Governance Committee for Mt. Hope Housing Company; and is also a member of the Corporate Counsel Women of Color and Women in Insurance and Financial Services. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Howard University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas at Austin.
